Martin Bobak is professor of epidemiology at University College London. His research focuses on determinants of health in Central and Eastern Europe and the former Soviet Union, with a broad interest in the effects on health of societal, socioeconomic, psychosocial, behavioural and environmental factors.
At present, Prof Bobak conducts, with colleagues in Russia, Poland, Czech Republic and Lithuania, a large multi-centre longitudinal study (the HAPIEE project) on the influences of social, economic and psychosocial factors, nutrition and hazardous alcohol consumption on cardiovascular disease, other chronic conditions and age-related outcomes during societal transition. With the HAPIEE project, Prof Bobak participates in a large consortium investigating determinants of ageing-related conditions in European and North American populations.
